Paul Dickson is the author of many bestselling books, including Baseball's Greatest Quotations, The Hidden Language of Baseball, and The Joy of Keeping Score. He lives in Garrett Park, Maryland.
I like this book because at the end, you realize that .. usually, readers can sort of read along and figure out, okay, this person's a good guy, this person's a bad guy, this person will probably live, this person will probably die. In this book, in the end, you realize that you're wrong about everything.
Two decades ago Paul Dickson set out to create a dictionary of baseball terminology. No small task, but Dickson is an expert lexicographer, with a superb ear and a relentless thirst for knowledge. "The Dickson Baseball Dictionary" defined some 5,000 entries. Ten years later, he revised the book, and the total soared to over 7,000 entries. Now in its new, third edition, the definitive "Dickson Baseball Dictionary" includes over 10,000 baseball terms. And Paul may not be done with it yet.
