An American woman keeps having Biblical dreams and visions that finally lead her to a discovery that could stand Christianity on its ear, in Kathleen McGowan's much-awaited novel "The Expected One." Originally self-published, and intended to be the first volume in a trilogy, "The Expected One" took McGowan years to research and write -- in no small part because she claims she, herself, is a real descendant of a union between Jesus and Mary Magdalene.

Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code is a modern-day thriller built around secrets supposedly contained in Leonardo's late 15th century painting "The Last Supper." As Brown was writing his book, Spanish novelist Javier Sierra was writing his, a thriller actually set in the late 15th century, as Leonardo was finishing his painting. The book is by David Shugarts -- fellow author Dan Burstein provides the introduction, to the book called Secrets of the Widow's Son.
