Amos Oz “Scenes from Village Life”
November 7th, 2011

A small, old village in Israel populated by an anxious, sad, and suspicious assortment of young and old is at the center of the new novel by Amos Oz — a novel told in stories — called “Scenes From Village Life.”

The mayor’s wife has disappeared, leaving behind a note that says, “Don’t worry about me.” A retired lawmaker and his widowed daughter take in a tenant, then the old man starts hearing a most bizarre noise directly under the floorboard of his room.
And one villager gets a visit from a man claiming to be a relative, with an audacious proposal.
