Jeannette Walls‘s memoir “The Glass Castle” stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for 100 weeks. Her second book, “Half Broke Horses,” was called “a true-life novel.”

Now her new book, “The Silver Star,” is nominally fiction. It’s the story of sisters Bean, who’s 12, and Liz, age 15, and the life they carve out for themselves after their wannabe actress mother, Charlotte, takes off to find herself.

Her publisher says Jeannette Walls is “supremely alert to abuse of adult power, [and] has written a deeply moving novel about triumph over adversity and about people who find a way to love each other and the world, despite its flaws and injustices.”
