Nathaniel Philbrick “The Last Stand”
June 16th, 2011
It went down as one of the worst defeats in American military history, but the stunning fall of George Custer at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876 has become clouded in all kinds of myth.
Now, in a book called “The Last Stand” National Book Award winner Nathaniel Philbrick takes a fresh look at the storied battle and its two iconic leaders, Custer and Sitting Bull. Philbrick even tracked down descendants of some of the combatants to get a newly-nuanced and balanced account of the battle.
