Tanner Colby “Some of My Best Friends Are Black”
August 16th, 2012
Most of the talk about race in America takes place on a rather abstract level. But for journalist and author Tanner Colby it took a very personal turn, as he was discomfited to realize one day that he had no African-American friends.
That started him thinking about how, half a century after Martin Luther king spoke so powerfully about his “dream” for America, the nation remained a place where a man could wake up one day and realize the total whiteness of his circle of friends.
How did America get lost on the way to Dr. King’s Promised Land?
Now in his book “Some of My Best Friends Are Black,” Colby sets out to find the answer.
