Is there no institution we can actually trust anymore?

Congress? Wall Street? The media? Major League Baseball? Nope, nope, nope, nope.

Christopher Hayes, Editor at Large of The Nation and MSNBC talk show host, says for the last decade or more our institutions have let us down, in a big way. And it’s getting worse.

What brought this about?

Hayes argues, in his book “Twilight of the Elites,” it’s because of a failure in leadership by our elites. And that, he says, is because of a principle at the very heart of what we have come to believe makes America great — a meritocracy. If you’re good, you rise to the top and become an elite.

But Hayes argues, the more elitist American society gets, the worse the caliber of elites it produces.
